Conversational Hypnosis

    If you've ever read science fiction, fantasy, or seen movies in these genres, you have come across someone performing conversational hypnosis. They first identify with someone else, develop rapport, and get them to do something. Many people would use this talent for good, but often in fiction it's used for evil purposes to help develop the plot.

    Well, this is reality. Even in a hypnotic state most people could not be persuaded to do something distasteful, even if it's a small thing. However, you can get them to do things they may want to do but don't have the willpower for. And the really great thing about conversational hypnosis is that you can use it on yourself!

Let's see how.

Conversational Self Hypnosis Basics

    The first thing you need to do is figure out the reason why you want to hypnotize yourself. Is it for weight loss? Weight loss is the reason for many overweight people. Therefore, let's use weight loss as an example.

    The first step to the actual technique is hypnosis itself. Perhaps you have the image of a hypnotist swinging a watch in front of someone's face saying, "You're eyelids are getting heavy." That may have been the early technique, but now all you need to do is relax and go into a trance state. There are many ways to do this, and you should read about them to find the best one for you.

    Once you are in a deeply relaxed state, you can begin a conversation with yourself. You might ask yourself why you are overweight. Are you using food to replace something spiritual that is missing in your life? That's a very common reason, so we'll use that one as we move on to the next step.

    Now that you have identified the reason, recognize how much power it has over you. Know that whatever is missing from your spiritual life leaves an uncontrollable emptiness, so much so that food replaces it. Food is the only answer according to your current logic.

    Now defy that logic by asking, "Is it really the only answer? Maybe there is another way." Explore other ways now while you're in the spiritual realm. Examine ways you can replace this spiritual need. It may be a need for professional acceptance. If so, work on building more confidence in your spiritual healing sessions.

    Your emptiness might be a need for more companionship and personal acceptance. This is one of the most common types of spiritual needs responsible for overweight. If so, you may be able to use conversational hypnosis in a different and more efficient way.

The "Two-for-One"

    If your emptiness is from lack of good relationships, you're not by any means alone. This is where the two-for comes in. Chances are extremely good that you know someone with the same problem. You could develop a buddy system with this person, and use hypnosis for weight loss together.

    This has a systematic advantage. Not only would you use hypnosis together, but you could check up on each other periodically and help each other between sessions!

    Here's how spiritual healing uses the buddy system. Rather than ask yourself the question of what's making you overeat, you ask the other person (who is in the trance state). He or she will not only go through the realization process, but will speak it. This gives the realization more power. In the second step, you might say to this person that there is no other way through the loneliness than to overeat; but then quickly ask if that's really true. Next, suggest strongly that there are other ways to fulfillment and have them identify those ways.

    Then trade places. Rinse and repeat every few days to a week, and check up on each other by phone--better yet, visit for meals and help each other eat responsibly. Use your companionship to help replace the acceptance that you both are missing, and bolster the positive effects of the conversational hypnosis and spiritual healing.
